Singapore Wholesale Fruit Market Update – Week 12
The Singapore wholesale fruit market remained subdued in Week 12, with trading activity staying generally soft across most categories. Demand was slightly better on Monday and Tuesday ahead of the Chinese prayer month on Thursday, but momentum slowed afterwards as buyers remained cautious and focused mainly on essential replenishment.
Market conditions were mixed during the week. Some categories continued to face tight supply and elevated pricing, while others began to ease with fresh arrivals from new origins. Overall sentiment remained cautious, with most buyers avoiding aggressive stock buildup.
Grapes Remained Tight and Expensive
The grape market stayed firm in Week 12, especially for prepacked lines. Supply remained limited, and pricing continued to hold at high levels. Premium Australian green grapes were still among the most expensive offers in the market, reflecting the ongoing tightness in supply.
Buying interest was present, but transactions remained selective due to the elevated price levels. Unless supply improves, the grape market is expected to stay firm in the near term.
Lemon Supply Stayed Tight While Vietnam Lime Entered at Low Prices
Citrus was one of the more closely watched categories this week. Lemon supply remained tight, and Egypt-origin lemons, while available, were not considered strong in quality. The market is now waiting for fresh arrivals from China and South Africa to improve both supply and quality options.
At the same time, the lime market saw a very different development. A diverted container of Vietnam limes in 4.5kg packs arrived in Singapore and was offered at around SGD6 per carton, making it one of the cheapest deals in the market this week.
Blueberry Supply Improved, but Strawberry Supply Tightened
Blueberry availability improved in Week 12 as more supply arrived from China. This helped ease the earlier tightness in the market and gave buyers more options compared with previous weeks.
In contrast, strawberry supply became tighter at the more affordable end of the market. Egypt strawberries, which had been among the lower-priced options, were more limited this week. More supply from Korea and the USA was available, but at generally higher price levels.
Mango Was One of the Better-Moving Categories
Mango was one of the better-performing fruit categories this week. Even though the broader market remained soft, mango demand was comparatively healthier, and movement was more active than in many other lines.
This stronger performance made mango one of the more notable categories in Week 12, standing out against the generally cautious buying environment.
More South African Apples and Pears Reached the Market
Pome supply improved during the week, with more pears and apples from South Africa becoming available. This gave buyers more sourcing options and helped improve supply conditions in the category.
Even so, overall demand remained measured, in line with the softer wholesale market environment. The increase in supply supported availability more than it lifted trading momentum.
Australia Avocado Shortage Was Resolved by Week’s End
Australian avocado faced a brief supply shortage earlier in the week, which created some temporary tightness in the market. However, the situation improved by the end of the week, and supply was restored.
As a result, the impact on overall avocado trading remained limited, although buyers were more cautious while availability was briefly affected.
Outlook for the Singapore Wholesale Fruit Market
The overall wholesale fruit market remains cautious, with buyers continuing to purchase selectively rather than build stock aggressively. In the short term, the market will keep watching citrus arrivals, grape supply, and the pace of movement in stronger-performing categories such as mango.
As supply patterns continue to shift across origins, categories with tighter availability are likely to remain firm, while products with improving arrivals may see more balanced trading in the coming weeks.
