Singapore’s wholesale fruit market remained very slow in Week 31. Despite prayer days during the week, overall buying activity stayed subdued, with customers continuing to purchase cautiously and compare closely across origins, pack sizes and price points.

Pricing was mixed, although softer quotations were seen across several melon, berry and grape lines. At the same time, selected U.S. grape varieties moved higher, while a broader range of apples, citrus, berries and stonefruit entered the market.

Melons and Berries Remain Buyer-Friendly

Australian rockmelon was one of the softer categories this week. Comparable quotations declined across several counts, with reductions of approximately 5% to 7%. China 86King Hami melon also eased slightly.

Berry pricing was generally stable to lower. Peru 12mm and 16mm blueberries maintained their previous-week levels, while Zimbabwe blueberries and larger Peru Sekoya Pop sizes softened.

New Peru blueberry sizes also became available, giving buyers a wider selection across different specifications and price points. U.S. strawberries recorded a small reduction.

With the overall market still moving slowly, buyers are likely to remain selective and avoid carrying more stock than necessary.

Mixed Direction for Grapes

Grapes showed the clearest mixed pricing trend this week.

U.S. Sweet Globe recorded the largest comparable increase, rising approximately 7%, while Midnight Beauty also moved slightly higher. In contrast, Sugar Drop and Sugar Crunch quotations declined, and Egypt Sweet Celebration grapes were also offered at a lower level.

New U.S. red grape varieties included FlavorCrush and Candy Heart, expanding the range available to buyers.

The wider selection is positive for customers looking for different flavour profiles and price points. However, the mixed price direction has not yet translated into stronger overall market demand.

New Citrus Programme Arrives

Week 31 brought a new mix of citrus quotations.

South African Valencia and Navel oranges entered the programme, together with Australian Cara and Washington Navel oranges. These were new specifications compared with the previous week, so direct price comparisons were not available.

The broader orange range provides buyers with more options by origin and count. Last week’s Australian Royal Honey Murcott mandarin lines were not quoted this week.

New Zealand Envy Apples Join the Market

New Zealand Envy apples were among the main new pome-fruit listings for Week 31.

The programme included several counts and grades, including higher-grade and standard-grade selections. As no comparable Envy apple quotation was recorded in Week 30, these are treated as new arrivals rather than a week-on-week price movement.

For buyers, the new listings add another premium apple option to the current market selection.

Stonefruit Range Continues to Develop

Spain donut peach in the comparable 500g × 10 format was maintained, while a new 500g × 14 format was introduced.

Other new U.S. stonefruit listings included August Saturn Donut Peach and Emerald Beaut green plum. No cherry quotation was captured this week.

These additions continue to broaden the summer stonefruit selection, although buyers remain careful due to the slow pace of market movement.

Buying Outlook

Week 31 remains a market where careful purchasing is important. Softer melon and selected berry quotations may provide useful buying opportunities, while mixed grape pricing requires closer attention to variety and specification.

New listings across apples, citrus, grapes, blueberries, stonefruit and Thai Nam Hom coconut have widened the available range, but overall demand remains restrained. Buyers should continue to monitor stock movement closely and select products according to expected turnover rather than range alone.
