Singapore’s fresh fruit market remained generally soft in Week 34, with good buying opportunities across several well-supplied categories. At the same time, a few products are beginning to tighten as seasonal programmes wind down or available stocks become limited.

Apple Market: Value in Green, Tightness in Premium Fuji
One of the clearest market signals this week came from Granny Smith green apples. Wholesale availability has increased, and this is also being reflected at retail.
A supermarket ground check showed New Zealand Granny Smith apples on a very aggressive promotion at 5 for S$1.95, compared with a previous price of S$0.60 each. This level of discounting supports the view that supply is currently comfortable and sellers are actively moving stock.
The situation is different for China premium Fuji apples. Premium-quality supply is becoming limited across a broad range of sizes, from smaller 113-count fruit through to larger 32-count fruit. With the China Fuji season likely approaching its tail end, buyers looking for better-quality specifications may face increasingly limited availability.
Retail checks also found China Fuji apples promoted at 5 for S$3.45, highlighting the difference between readily available retail lines and the tighter situation for premium wholesale specifications.
Hami Melon Showing a Tighter Supply Picture
Hami melon is another item to watch.
Market enquiries have increased while available supply appears limited. This suggests that the category has moved away from the heavier supply conditions seen earlier in the season.
For buyers with upcoming Hami melon requirements, availability may now be more important than simply waiting for lower pricing.
Selected Pear Supply Remains Limited
Certain pear lines are also proving difficult to source, including selected African-origin pears.
The presence of buyer enquiries without corresponding comfortable supply suggests that some pear varieties may remain relatively firm in the near term, particularly where specific origin, size or quality requirements are involved.
South African Lemon Market Stabilising
The South African lemon market appears more balanced this week.
After earlier periods of heavier supply and price reductions, wholesale pricing is now showing signs of stabilisation. Retail promotions remain competitive, however, with one supermarket offering large South African lemons at 5 for S$3.00, versus a previous price of S$0.95 each.
This suggests the market is still working through promotional volumes even as wholesale conditions become more balanced.
Grapefruit Under Clearance Pressure
South African grapefruit is facing a different situation.
Several diverted containers are reportedly in the Singapore market, and sellers are reducing prices aggressively to move stock. This creates short-term buying opportunities, although the market is currently being driven by stock clearance rather than stronger underlying demand.
Buyers able to utilise grapefruit volume may find attractive offers while these diverted stocks remain available.
Strong Retail Promotions Continue
Retail fruit promotions remain active across several categories.
Other supermarket observations this week included:
New Zealand Envy apples: 5 for S$7.45
Hass avocado: 3 for S$5.95
South African Cara Cara oranges, 800g: S$3.45
Premium sweet oranges, 800g: S$7.95
These promotions reinforce the broader picture of a market where retailers are competing actively on selected fruit lines, particularly where supply is comfortable.
What to Watch Next
The overall Singapore fruit market remains buyer-friendly in many well-supplied categories, but availability is becoming more uneven.
Key items to watch in the coming week include China premium Fuji apples, Hami melon and selected pears, where supply is relatively tight. In contrast, Granny Smith apples and South African grapefruit remain under greater supply pressure, creating potential buying opportunities.
As always, quality, size, origin and specification remain important when comparing offers, particularly in a market where promotional retail pricing can move very differently from premium wholesale fruit.
3YY Fresh continues to monitor Singapore wholesale movements, retail promotions and on-the-ground supply conditions to identify meaningful market opportunities each week.
