Singapore Fresh Fruit Market Update – Week 36, 2026

Singapore’s fresh fruit wholesale market was generally stable to softer in Week 36, 2026, although the citrus category showed unusually sharp differences in supply and pricing.

The biggest development this week is the contrast between tight lemon supply and the heavy arrival of South African grapefruit and Valencia oranges. While lemon prices have risen sharply, excess grapefruit and orange volumes are creating more competitive buying opportunities in the Singapore fruit market.

Singapore Lemon Prices Rise as Supply Tightens

Lemon supply in Singapore has become increasingly limited this week.

Based on ground market observations, lemon prices have moved above S$32 per carton, reflecting tighter availability and higher replacement costs.

This is a significant change from the softer citrus conditions seen earlier in the season. Buyers requiring regular lemon volumes may need to plan purchases carefully while supply remains constrained.

For restaurants, foodservice operators, retailers and fresh produce distributors, lemons are currently one of the firmer-priced fruit categories in the Singapore wholesale market.

South African Grapefruit Oversupply Pushes Prices Lower

The situation for South African grapefruit is very different.

Excess supply has been diverted into the Singapore market, creating considerable pricing pressure. Ground market indications have reached approximately S$10 per carton as importers compete to move available stocks.

For buyers, the unusually low grapefruit pricing may provide an opportunity to secure fruit at attractive levels while supplies remain abundant.

However, with significant volumes already in the market, pricing is likely to remain highly competitive in the short term.

More Than 20 Containers of South African Valencia Oranges Arriving

South African Valencia oranges are another key fruit to watch this week.

One Singapore importer alone is expected to receive approximately 16 containers of South African Valencia oranges, while total market arrivals are estimated to exceed 20 containers for the week.

This represents a substantial volume entering the Singapore wholesale fruit market within a short period.

The heavy arrivals are expected to increase competition between suppliers and place pressure on Valencia orange prices as importers work through incoming inventory.

For businesses with strong orange demand, the large supply may create favourable purchasing opportunities.

Week 36 Wholesale Fruit Prices Mostly Stable to Softer

Outside the citrus category, wholesale fruit prices were generally stable or lower compared with Week 35.

Among the notable like-for-like price movements:

  • Vietnam white-flesh dragonfruit: approximately 20.0% lower

  • U.S. Flavourfall plum: approximately 4.4% lower

  • U.S. Green Emerald grapes: approximately 2.6% lower

  • Australian Premiyum strawberries: approximately 2.4% lower

No strict like-for-like SKU in the main Week 35 versus Week 36 comparison recorded a wholesale price increase.

These movements indicate that buyers continue to have competitive purchasing opportunities across selected fruit categories, although individual prices will vary according to origin, variety, size, grade, pack specification and brand.

Citrus Market Shows Two Very Different Supply Conditions

The Singapore citrus market is currently operating at two extremes.

Lemons are tight and expensive, while South African grapefruit and Valencia oranges are heavily supplied.

This creates very different purchasing strategies for fruit buyers.

For lemons, securing supply and monitoring replacement prices may be more important than waiting for lower prices.

For grapefruit and Valencia oranges, the substantial available volume means buyers may have greater negotiating opportunities while the market works through current arrivals.

What Singapore Fruit Buyers Should Watch

Three developments are worth monitoring closely over the coming days.

Lemon availability remains the main upside price risk. If supply continues to be limited, prices could remain elevated.

South African grapefruit stocks remain heavy, and competitive pricing is likely while excess fruit remains in the market.

South African Valencia orange arrivals are particularly significant. With more than 20 containers estimated to arrive across Singapore this week, the speed at which wholesalers, retailers and foodservice buyers absorb the fruit will be important for determining the next direction in pricing.

Singapore Wholesale Fruit Market Outlook

Week 36 highlights how quickly fresh fruit market conditions can diverge even within the same category.

While overall wholesale prices remain broadly stable to softer, citrus buyers are facing both shortage and oversupply at the same time.

For businesses buying fresh fruit in Singapore, understanding current arrivals, availability and market pricing is increasingly important when planning purchases.
