Singapore Fresh Fruit Market Update – Week 39 🍋🍏
Singapore’s fresh fruit market remained relatively soft in Week 39, even with the Mid-Autumn Festival period typically providing a seasonal lift to selected fruit categories.
This year, buying activity was more subdued than expected, with noticeable pressure in pomelo and citrus, while a few selected products continued to see tighter availability.

Mid-Autumn Demand Softer Than Expected
The Mid-Autumn Festival traditionally supports stronger demand for fruits commonly associated with gifting and festive consumption. However, market activity this year was noticeably weaker.
Pomelo was one of the clearest examples. Despite being a key seasonal item during this period, demand did not reach the levels normally seen around the festival and was significantly softer compared with last year.
The broader market also remained cautious, with buyers generally focusing on immediate requirements rather than building larger positions.
Lemon Supply Increases Sharply
Lemons were one of the most active categories this week as supply increased from both South Africa and China.
South African lemon prices softened relatively quickly, with market offers moving down from around S$31 previously to approximately S$29, while some offers were seen around S$28.
Chinese lemons were available at around S$22 per carton. Despite being only around 1kg lighter than the comparable South African pack, Chinese fruit was unable to command a similar price level.
The wide availability of lemons has created a more competitive market, giving buyers additional sourcing options while keeping upward price pressure limited.
Granny Smith Availability Remains Tight
While several categories were well supplied, Granny Smith apples were comparatively difficult to find.
The shortage stands out against an otherwise soft market and may provide some support for available stocks until supply improves.
For buyers requiring Granny Smith regularly, closer planning may be necessary while availability remains limited.
Blueberries and Avocados Ease
Selected wholesale quotations also showed some price softness during the week.
Zimbabwe 14mm blueberries moved lower compared with Week 38, while Australian Hass avocado pricing also showed some easing.
At the same time, several comparable items remained stable, including selected Australian rockmelon and Vietnam white-flesh dragonfruit lines.
Overall, the week-on-week picture was characterised more by stable-to-lower pricing than by any broad-based increase.
A Supply-Driven Market
The main theme for Week 39 is that the Singapore fruit market remains largely supply-driven.
Higher availability in categories such as lemons is putting pressure on prices, while demand has not strengthened sufficiently to absorb the additional supply quickly.
At the same time, isolated shortages such as Granny Smith show that individual products can still move differently from the wider market.
For buyers, the current environment continues to favour selective purchasing, close monitoring of supply levels and careful comparison between origins and specifications.
